MassGrid Blockchain and Sports Mobile Games — 区块链与体育游戏

大家好!感谢主办方给我这个机会向大家分享区块链和体育游戏。

Hello Everyone! Thanks to the organizer for giving me this opportunity to discuss about blockchain and sports games with everyone here.


我叫黄翔,毕业于北京大学数字艺术系,五年前在丹麦和德国工作过一段时间,一直都在3D游戏行业,我曾经是一名3D引擎工程师。

I am Huang Xiang, I graduated from Beijing University in Digital Art, previously I worked in Denmark and Germany, doing 3D graphic design and working as a 3D engine engineer.

1 | MLGB这个名字曾让我们非常苦闷

1 | MLGB — An annoying name

我在4年前创建GalaSports,到现在一直担任CTO。去年我们创建了MLGB(注:即MassGrid,简称MGD,项目开始时曾被称为MLGB)这个项目,没错,我就是站在MLGB幕后的人,这个事情真的非常跌宕起伏。

Four years ago, I co-founded Gala Sports and since then have been it’s CTO. Last year, we started the MLGB project (The project is now called Mass Grid, shortened to MGD, but the project started as MLGB). I am one of the person behind the MLGB project dealing with it’s ups and downs.

先给大家说一下GalaSports,它现在是中国第二大的体育游戏公司,跟NBA、国际足联、皇马、巴萨、拜仁等十多家俱乐部有广泛地合作,现在线上有3款主要产品 — — 足球大师、冠军中超、NBA篮球大师。

First, let me introduce Gala Sports, at the moment we are the second biggest sports game company in China. We have worked and cooperated with the NBA, international renowned football clubs, such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and many others. At the moment, we have three games out Football Master, CSL Champions and NBA Basketball Master.

我们现在公司的数据,日活大约100多万,月流水几千万,在100多个国家有版本,有PC、移动和网页端3个产品。

Currently with our three games combined, we have more than 1 million users, multi-million dollar monthly revenue. These games are published in over 100 countries and available on mobile, PC and the internet.

回到MLGB。其实这个项目的正式名字叫MassGrid,是一个高大上的名字。当时我们有做一个非常正式的官网,同时为了讽刺疯狂的ICO现状,做了一个移动端的运营活动页面。

Back to MLGB, the actual formal name of the project is Mass Grid. When we created the project, we wanted to make a satire of the current ICO craze and at the same time we created an official website and promotional events on mobile.

当时的活动页面截图,“现代行为艺术”、“撒币”等名词让MassGrid一度成为焦点

Our first promotional image, “Modern Performance Artwork”, “Giveaway” and other names brought the spotlight on us at Mass Grid.

没想到我们的官网没有人访问,反倒是这个活动页面火了。上线1小时访问量就达到了100万PV。所有人都说我们这个币是马勒戈币,央视还做了个专题批评我们违反风序良俗。

We didn’t imagine that our website would have any visitors, but on the contrary the promotion caught fire. After one hour, the we had over 1,000,000 page views. Everyone associated us with MLGB and then CCTV did a news report on us breaking the law.

我们内心其实是非常苦闷的,因为我们正式的名称 — — MassGrid彻底被颠覆掉了。

We were very annoyed of the outcome of the situation, because our formal project name(Mass Grid) was completely lost in the storm.

2 | 98%的显卡计算资源被浪费

2 | 98% of the GPU Resources Are Wasted

我们做这个事缘于一篇学术论文,2017年2月Guanghui Lan、Soomin Lee、Yi Zhou等撰写的Communication-Efficient Algorithms for Decentralized and Stochastic Optimization。翻译过来就是:一种节点间高效率通信的神经网络训练随机梯度下降优化算法,他用数学证明了在节点之间能并行的异步高效通讯可以用来进行神经网络的训练。

We have published a research paper on the subject entitled “Communication-Efficient Algorithms for Decentralized and Stochastic Optimization” by Guanghui Lan, Soomin Lee and Yi Zhou. They proved mathematically that asynchronous and efficient communications between nodes can be used to train neural networks.

这篇论文解决了3个问题,使得超大规模的AI并行计算成为可能。这篇论文所列的算法可以实现更大更强更深的AI训练,它有三个好处:去中心化、实现低数据传输、实现高效率无限扩张。

This paper solves 3 problems, making large scale AI parallel computing possible. The algorithms listed in this paper can achieve greater and deeper AI training. It has three advantages: decentralization, low data transmission, and achieve high efficiency and unlimited scaling

现在AI并行训练的世界纪录是Facebook,2000张显卡。世界上最深的网络是微软,做的180多层的神经网络。

The current world record for a AI training belongs to Facebook when they utilized 2000 GPU cards. And the biggest multi-layered neural network belong to Microsoft with a network that is 180 layers deep.

这里面有个有趣的现象。我们在做这个事情的时候发现:整个挖矿行业有超过800万张显卡进行POW计算,AI行业进行在线AI训练的显卡不足10万张。这是一个巨大的资源大矿,也是人类到现在所发明最好的计算资源,却被用来做POW这种无效的计算。

There is an interesting phenomenon happening here, we discovered that there were more than 8 million graphic cards mining cryptocurrency doing POW calculations and there were less than 100,000 cards being used for online AI training. This means there is a huge resources of mining and it is the best computational resource that humanity has invented, used to do POW computing.

我们经过一年多的研发,已经达成了3个目标。

We have already done one year of experimentation and achieved 3 goals.

o 我们在实验室里有30多个节点正在做这个事,刚刚跑通,已经部署起来。

o We have more than 30 nodes in the lab doing this right now, running and ready to be deployed.

o 我们这个网络已经实现了不需要中央服务器的同步,以前所有的AI训练都需要到中央服务器进行状态同步,现在能进行去中心化的同时训练。

o Our network has achieved synchronization without the need for a central server. All previous AI training required synchronization to a central server. Now it is possible to perform simultaneous decentralized training.

o 我们很有可能在很短的时间内突破Facebook的2000张显卡的世界纪录。

o It is very possible that in a short time we will be able to eclipse Facebook’s world record of 2000 graphic cards.

3 | ETH撸猫不是真正的游戏

3 | ETH CryptoKitties Is Not a Real Game

在我们做游戏的人看来,游戏有三个不可或缺的模块:一是要有挑战、二是用户要完成挑战,三是完成挑战能获得回报。

From our point of view making games, games have three indispensable points: There needs to be challenges, users need to be able to complete the challenges and the users must be rewarded for their accomplishing the challenges.

举个例子,挑战有很多种。剧情故事挑战的,古墓丽影;PVP挑战的,比如吃鸡;用户自high挑战的,俄罗斯方块;完成游戏的过程、消灭对手、获得胜利,获得更高分数的,比如地铁跑酷。

For example, there are many challenges. Storyline challenges, like Tomb Raider; PVP challenges, such as PUBG; reach higher levels, Tetris; Completing the game, eliminating opponents, winning, getting higher scores, like Subway Surfers.

CryptoKitties

通过游戏的三个模块我们不难看出,ETH撸猫既没有挑战,也没有完成挑战,只有获得回报。
所以ETH撸猫的本质在我看来就两个:1.撸猫工作时发布了一个具像化、拟人化的资产;2.玩家通过交易互相割韭菜。

Looking at these three points, CryptoKitties don’t have challenges, users can’t complete them obviously, there are only rewards. So CryptoKitties, in my opinion has two goals; 1. CryptoKitties are chracterized assets 2. Users are trying to profit from each other by trading.

但它往冰冷的数字货币里注入了拟人化的设定,让事情变得有趣,因此也成为史上第一个,抓住了2017年区块链爆涨红利。

But having introduce an anthropomorphic concept into the feeling deprived cryptocurrency world is an interesting concept, so this made them the first to capture attention in the 2017 cryptocurrency boom.

4 | 区块链游戏:低投入,高回报,刚起步

4 |Game on Blockchain: Low Investment, High Returns, Just the Start

游戏是一个系统工程,是艺术和技术结合在一块的规模化工程。如何让区块链的游戏变得更有趣?不仅需要世界观,有剧情、人物设定、场景设定、技能、战术设定,还要有好的核心玩法,对战方式等。

Games are a complex project, combining art and technology together on a large scale. So how to make blockchain games more interesting? Not only does it need an international perspective but also good plots, characters, scenes, and tacticals setting, as well a good gameplay and competitions.

我来这个会议之前让我们公司做数据的同事做了一下调研,到底区块链游戏有多少人在玩?区块链游戏的用户是谁?区块链游戏的用户数量有多少?我们统计在中国排名非常靠前的几款区块链产品,发现今年大概有100万人左右的活跃用户,主要集中在头部10多款的游戏里。

Before I came here, my colleagues from our company did some research. How many people were playing blockchain games? Who are the users of the blockchain games? What is the number of users of blockchain games? And, we looked at the top blockchain products in China and found out that there are about 1 million active users this year, mainly playing the top 10 games.

这些用户主要是男性为主,比较年轻,行业是IT、证券和金融,比较爱冒风险,具有高净值、高付费率、喜欢风险。还有一个非常有趣的,主要的付费,大额用户是曾经经历过区块链爆富的,所以他们手上有大量的ETH和Token,当然很神奇的是这里面也有很多的中国大妈,她们的购买力远远超过其他的群体。

Users are generally young male, working in the IT or finance and securities industries. They are risk takers, high-net worth individuals and have a habit of spending more than average on games. Also an interesting note, is that many of them have experience the cryptocurrency boom and have lots of ETH and altcoins on hand. A surprise among this research was that there are a disproportionate high amount of middle-age women in China using cryptocurrency and their purchasing power is higher than most other groups.

正好有一个朋友做了区块链游戏,我们来看一下它与手机游戏的数据对比。

One of my good friends has published a game on blockchain, let’s see the data versus the game on mobile.

手机游戏的产业升级,经历了这么几个阶段,MUD游戏、单机游戏、休闲小游戏、联网游戏、网络游戏等。手机产业的团队从硬件公司附属工作室,到小游戏工作室、独立游戏工作室、成规模游戏公司、巨型游戏公司,也经历了10多年的时间。区块链游戏如果对比手机游戏发展路径来看的话,是在刚刚开始的阶段。

The evolution of mobile games have been through various stages, such as MUD games, stand-alone, casual, networked games and now online games. The mobile gaming industry in 10 years has had huge changes from small independent studio to now giant game companies. And if you look at its that development and look at the blockchain technology, it is only the beginning.

GalaSports目前已发布的3款产品分别是:足球大师、冠军中超、NBA篮球大师。我们也准备在未来几个月的时间内把所有的线上产品都接入区块链,首先从支付开始,我们也会慢慢地尝试把这些正版的授权,比如FIFA、中超、NBA的授权做成更轻量级小的HTM的游戏。

Gala Sports has already published three games, Football Master, CSL Champions and NBA Basketball Master. We are preparing to put those game on the blockchain in the coming months and once we payments have started to introduce official licenses such as FIFA, CSL and the NBA, making light versions of those games.

希望能跟白鹭一起成长,能跟白鹭一起为区块链游戏做一个很好的开始吧,谢谢大家。
